Autorac is an implementation of a security system developed for a secure bike stand. It features an on-board lock that authenticates users over a wireless link. The user uses an RFID keyfor the purpose of identification and authorization. The rack then communicates with its node co-ordinator and its administration server to authenticate the user. The entire system works on two stages of communications: one – a low powered wireless mesh(Zigbee) and lock system for every bike node and two – the node co-ordinator that communicates with the administration server. The system is also capable of logging user timestamps and releasing locks at the discretion of the administrator. The project was developed using the Arduino microcontrollers, Zigbee wireless communication chips, and a remote administration server running Linux.
